Last season’s champions, Atlético Mineiro, drew 2-2 against Coritiba as they lost their 100% start to the season.
The draw keeps the ‘Galo’ in second place but having been leading 2-0, it will feel like three points were thrown away.
Antonio Mohamed’s team were looking comfortable at half time, thanks to two goals from Venezuelan midfielder Jefferson Savarino gave them a 2-0 lead.
A change of tactics at half time from Coritiba coach Gustavo Moringo gave the visitors an attacking threat and Mineiro were unable to hold on to the lead. Goals from Igor Paixão and Adrián Martínez completed the comeback and secured a great result for Coritiba who went into the game as the underdogs.
Mineiro are level on seven points with leaders Santos and are only behind on goal difference. With only three games gone, the season is already shaping up to be very competitive with no clear front-runner at this stage.
