Chet Holmgren let his play do the talking as he went off on Tuesday night in his OKC debut in the Summer League. The young prospect helped his team defeat the Utah Jazz, 98-77, finishing off with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 blocks with just 24 minutes on the court.
The center made a controversial statement suggesting that he will be among the best players in the League in a few months’ time. Holmgren was selected with the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder which made him the highest drafted player in Gonzaga’s history.
The 20-year-old single-handedly led the U-19 team of the United States on their way to the World Cup goal in 2021, thus winning the tournament MVP award. Holmgren developed himself as a center throughout the past year averaging 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game for the Zags.
Even though the intensity in the Summer League is far from the NBA during the Regular Season, Holmgren gradually paves his path toward revolutionalizing the center position in basketball.
