Mookie Betts hits two homers as Dodgers defeat Nationals 9-4

Published on

The Los Angeles Dodgers slid past the hosting team Washington Nationals to claim victory on Tuesday’s game 9-4 at Nationals Park.

Right fielder Mookie Betts who was originally supposed to have off the matchup ended up having a stellar performance of his career. Betts also made the highest RBIs count for the team in addition to making four at-bats appearances.

The hosting team, on the other, appeared to have difficulties in treating the visiting team in the first four innings on Tuesday. Despite hitting early three in the first inning that propelled Washington over LA, the Nationals had a huge gap in the game until their hard labor paid off in the seventh. Thus far, the Dodgers have won two out of their three total games against the Nationals.

Betts’ homers help Dodgers win over Nationals

Tuesday night happened to be for LA, especially the right time for Betts to shine. The 29-year-old went out to smack stellar homer runs to take over the win as he and the Dodgers routed Washington. Betts batted to former LA talented prospect pitcher Josiah Gray.

After a successful bat to Gray, Betts managed a solo hit shot to Washington Mexican professional pitcher Victor Arano. The hit marked Betts’ 21st multi-homer game in his career. That being said, his double home run hit is also his second this season.

“It’s about time we started doing this. It seems like we’d have one part of the lineup going and the other not but now we’ve got everyone putting together good at-bats,” Betts said.

Adding to Betts’ successful home run were fellow teammate shortstop Trea Turner and center fielder Chris Taylor to push the hosting team back in the corner.

Walking out of the Nationals Park on Tuesday has marked the Dodgers’ three consecutive series wins. Moreover, Betts’ remarkable Tuesday gig has once again proved that the right-handed batsman is one of the big-league players and with no doubt, a centerpiece in the Dodgers ever since he signed for the franchise in early 2020.

Betts’ track record in the league is no trivial feat nonetheless. Prior to the Dodgers, he spent six seasons with the Boston Red Sox, where he played a total of 794 games and slashed .301/.374/.519. After playing for three years in LA, the right-handed pitcher accumulated 217 games and .277/.370/.524.

In his first 10 games of this season, the five-time All-Star managed .171. That being said, having played 40 games this season and slashing .292/.385/.578 is quite a remarkable feat for the professional pitcher.

“It makes it a lot easier, but before I was hitting .400, I was hitting .100,” Betts said. “I had to make that change in the mindset and really just enjoy it. It seems to have worked so far.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts sang high praise for the former Red Sox who had his fifth All-Star appearance last year.

“Over the last 30 days, it’s as good as anybody on the planet right now,” Roberts said. “It’s as good as I’ve seen him. He’s scoring runs at a crazy clip. He’s on base. He’s slugging at a ridiculous clip, too, and he’s playing Gold Glove defense. He’s making the game look a lot easier than it is.”
