Gold Coast V St George Illawarra Preview

Gold Coast v St George Illawarra Preview

The Titans may be opening their season on home soil but they still face one of the toughest assignments of the opening round up against last year’s premiers St George Illawarra.

The Dragons have not skipped a beat since taking out last year’s title and although they will miss the industry of lock/dummy half Dean Young, they will field a near full strength line-up.
The Titans are missing considerable forward strength with Anthony Laffranchi, Nathan Friend and Brad Meyers all sidelined for the opening game while South Sydney recruit Luke Capewell may take some time to find his feet outside Scott Prince.
Admittedly the Dragons have yet to play for premiership points in 2011 but in their early season games they have shown signs that
they intend to play with a greater freedom this season after finally achieving their long-awaited premiership victory in 2010.
The Dragons have breath-taking talent out wide where Mark Gasnier and Matt Cooper are regarded among the leading centres in the game, Brett Morris and Jason Nightingale are current Test wingers while fullback Darius Boyd was narrowly beaten for Dally M honours in 2010.
Look for the value of a penalty goal to either side as First Scoring Play but stick with the Dragons to win comfortably.
First Tryscoring options include David Mead, Kevin Gordon and William Zillman for the Titans or Brett Morris, Jason Nightingale or Mark Gasnier for the Dragons.
