Danny Care extends his stay at Harlequins with undisclosed length contract

Harlequin’s longest-serving current player, Danny Care, has put pen to paper and signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Stoop for at least another season. The exact length of the contract is undisclosed. The former England scrum-half, who has represented his country in over 80 matches, has been with Harlequins since 2006. He was one of the foundational players in the Harlequins’ win of the Premiership last season. The livewire nine is no stranger to success but had to wait nine years before he added to his first league title. He has also been credited with mentoring his young half-back partner Marcus Smith, who has had a meteoric rise to the national team. They have been some of the most prolific and exciting half-back pairings in the league for the past two seasons.

Care’s legendary status at Harlequins

Care has had many memorable days at the Stoop, and the 2011 Challenge Cup win over Stade Francais certainly ranks as among his finest hours. He’s a true club legend, and his 321 appearances certainly bear testimony to this status.

The scrum-half said: “I’m delighted to sign on again with Quins. I love playing for this club. Since I came down here 16 years ago, I’ve loved every minute of playing at The Stoop. Our fans are the best out there, and it’s been incredible to have them back in full voice this season.”

Care is only the third player in club history to reach the 300-cap mark and holds the record of 98 tries scored for Quins. His leadership skills were recognized early in his career, and he was made captain for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons, where the highlight was leading the team to a Challenge Cup final in his first year at the helm. In his second season, Harlequins were back into Europe’s elite competition, the Champions Cup.
