South Sydney Rabbitohs reach NRL Grand Final with win over Sydney Roosters

South Sydney Rabbitohs have made it to their first Grand Final in 43 years after seeing off Sydney Roosters in the Preliminary Finals.

Michael Maguire’s Bunnies came from behind to stun the defending champions and march onto their first Grand Final appearance since they last won it in 1971.

The Bunnies have a long history in the competition with 20 title wins in their 106 year history but for a club like this not have been to a final in 43 years is a travesty – but they have done.

They trailed 12-0 at one stage before hitting back to lead 32-12 – Late tries for the defending champions and minor premiers gave the score line a measure of credibility as the Rabbitohs won 32-22 and will now face Penrith Panthers or Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL Grand Final at the ANZ Stadium on Sunday, October 5.
The Roosters looked in control as they led 12-0 after eight minutes thanks to tries from Mitchell Pearce and Anthony Minichiello but the Bunnies didn’t panic and they took over not long after.

Tries from Lote Tuqiri and Alex Johnston saw the Bunnies and Roosters go in level 12-12 at the break, but it was after the break that the Bunnies really dominated.

A second-half double to arguably the best player in the world – Greg Inglis – and one from Ben Te’o as well some great kicking from Adam Reynolds saw them cruise to a 32-12 lead.
Late tries from Aidan Guerra and the retiring Minichiello put a bit of pride back in the Roosters performance but it was too little too late and Souths go marching on.
