Alianza go top after beating Once Deportivo 1-0

Published on

Alianza beat Once Deportivo 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Franco Arizala. They took advantage of a draw for Águila to move into first place in the league after the round 20 fixtures.

Alianza have been a team in form and were five games unbeaten. Their run had moved them into contention for the league lead. Once Deportivo had only picked up two points from their last four league games and found themselves slipping down the table.

Arizala’s goal came in the 15th minute and proved to be the match winner. He got on the end of a Óscar Cerén cross to give his side the lead. It was the Colombian’s fourth goal in two games after scoring a hat-trick in their last match against Municipal Limeño.

It was not all good news for Alianza though, as Arizala had to be replaced in the second half due to injury. They will be hoping that it is only a minor knock and that the in-form forward will not miss their upcoming matches.
