Arsenal close to Marquinhos deal

Arsenal’s venture into South America is set to continue as the Gunners are reportedly close to signing of Marquinhos from Brazilian side São Paulo.

Regarded as an exciting talent, Marquinhos could cost the North London side as little as £3 million.

There has been controversy around the Brazilian’s contract. Marquinhos signed a new five-year deal back in 2019 but FIFA intervened and ruled the contract valid for only three years. The Brazilian is now out of contract at the end of the summer, which has allowed Arsenal to swoop in.

Arsenal’s Director of Football has implemented a similar strategy in the past when the club secured the signing of Gabriel Martinelli. Martinelli has proved to be a rip-roaring success and the Arsenal hierarchy will be hoping for a similar impact from Marquinhos.

According to reports in Brazil, personal terms have been agreed upon, and the deal is pending the successful completion of a medical.

Arsenal have a battle on their hands to secure Champions League football. Arsenal have two games remaining against Newcastle and Everton, a win in both of these fixtures will see them secure a place in Europe’s elite competition but any slip ups could let Tottenham through the door.
