Arsenal have agreed a deal with Real Madrid for Nuri Sahin, with the player now set to decide on a move to Emirates Stadium.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal and Los Blancos agreed a deal for the 23-year-old late on Tuesday and the move could be completed before the weekend – providing Sahin wants to move to north London.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool, along with Manchester United, have shown interest in the Turkey international for some time, and he had been told earlier this month that he could leave the Bernabeu on a season-long loan deal as his chances of first-team football in the Spanish capital are limited.

Liverpool were hoping to complete a deal for Sahin last week, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had in recent days stepped up his interest in the former Borussia Dortmund player as a result of Alex Song leaving the club to join Barcelona in a £15million deal.

It had been reported on Tuesday morning that Wenger’s bid to sign Sahin had stalled as a result of him wanting the option of a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Liverpool are understood to have offered Madrid better financial terms, although it is believed the player would prefer to move to north London as he is keen on playing Champions League football this season, indicating that he will opt to join the Gunners in the next few days.
