Aston Villa agree deal to sign Diego Carlos

Aston Villa have continued their swift transfer work by capturing the signing of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos. Carlos will join Villa as soon as the transfer window opens and will cost the Midlands-based club for a fee of £26 million.

Carlos has represented Brazil a total of seven times, with six of these appearances coming at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where he helped Brazil win gold.

Carlos has attracted attention from the Premier League before, with the Brazilian close to joining Newcastle back in January.

Carlos has had a good season for Seville making 34 La Liga appearances whilst scoring 3 goals. His performances helped carry Seville to a 4th place finish, where they will play in next season’s Champions League.

Carlos joins an Aston Villa team who finished 14th in the Premier League. Defence has been a weak spot with the Villains unable to keep a clean sheet in any of their last five league matches.

Carlos joins compatriot Phillipe Coutinho and former Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara as one of three new summer additions.
