Diego Godin opened the scoring in the UEFA Champions League with a header that looped over the stranded Iker Casillas in the Real Madrid goal

Diego Godin won’t have been well backed to open the scoring in the Champions League final but the Uruguayan defender broke the deadlock in Lisbon with a scrappy goal that owed much to an error of judgement from Iker Casillas.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper came to deal with a cross ball but found himself stranded and Godin was able to loop a header over the despairing Spain international and into the net.

It was Godin’s second goal in seven days, having netted the equaliser against Barcelona that gave Atletico Madrid La Liga title a week previous.
