Boca Juniors and Tigre Through to Copa de la Liga Profesional Final After Tense Penalty Shootout Wins

Published on

Racing Club and Argentinos Jrs were made to pay the penalty for their lack of accuracy in the Copa de la Liga Profesional semi-finals at the weekend.

They both tasted defeat in a penalty shootout, which means that Boca Juniors and Tigre will contest the final of the competition on May 22.

Boca failed to record a single shot on target in normal time of their semi-final clash with Racing, but their lack of attacking intensity was not punished by the underdogs and the game went to the dreaded spot kicks.

The two teams traded blows before Sebastián Battaglia’s men finally gained the all-important advantage – Emiliano Insúa failing to hit the target for Racing Club before Alan Varela claimed the victory with his effort.

There was a similar story at Estadio Tomás Adolfo Duco. Tigre took the lead through Alexis Castro before Argentinos Jrs hit back through Gabriel Avalos – the game finishing 1-1 after 90 minutes.

And Argentino Jrs had a horror show from 12 yards, missing three of their four spot kicks to gift the win to Tigre.
