With the Ligue 1 title wrapped up – the season is coming to a slow and bland end for French champions PSG.
Despite yet another league title, the mood around PSG is a somber one with the fans still bitterly disappointed with how the club exited this season’s Champions League – a failure that is likely to cost current boss Mauricio Pochettino his job.
The team were greeted to more jeers and whistles in their disappointing 2-2 draw against Troyes.
PSG got off to a fast start thanks to goals from both Marquinhos and Neymar but like they have too often this season, PSG were quickly pegged back thanks to two quick goals from Troyes.
The game ended in a drab finish which wouldn’t have done Pochettino’s job prospects too many favors.
It remains unclear as to who the PSG board have lined up to succeed the Argentine. With the Champions League the ultimate goal, former French hero Zinedine Zidane has long been targeted at the role but Zidane might harbor hopes to take on the national side once the World Cup is over later this year.
Antonio Conte is another candidate but it would cost PSG money to prize him away from Tottenham and the Italian’s record in the Champions League isn’t the most inspiring.
With the future of Pochettino unclear, it looks set to be an intriguing summer.
