Chelsea FC favourites to sign Edinson Cavani as striker search continues

Chelsea are reportedly still hoping to sign Napoli’s Edinson Cavani as Roberto Di Matteo looks to bring in a top striker before the end of the month.
Chelsea have already spent over £65million this summer on the likes of Oscar, Eden and Thorgan Hazard, and Marko Marin, but are known to be keen on bringing in a forward to replace Didier Drogba, who left the club at the end of last season.
Di Matteo is also keen on bringing in Marseille defender Cesar Azpilicueta and Wigan winger Victor Moses before the transfer window closes, but according to the Daily Express, the Blues are ready to step up their interest in Cavani after losing patience with Porto over a deal for Brazilian striker Hulk.
It is believed Cavani’s £150,000-a-week personal demands could prove to be a stumbling block for Chelsea, but according to Monday’s report, owner Roman Abramovich is ready to discuss a £35million deal for the Uruguay international and could include Raul Meireles as part of the deal.
Di Matteo had last week insisted he wants value for money with further any signings that are made.
“We’re not going to pay over the top,” the Italian said.
“What we think is the real value for a player, we have paid.”
Cavani has previously admitted he is interested in playing in the Premiership and bookmakers Sky Bet on Tuesday made Chelsea the huge odds-on favourites to win the race to sign the 25-year-old, ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester City
