Chelsea have reportedly made an enquiry for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez. Reports in the past 48 hours have suggested Hernandez’s future at Old Trafford could be in some doubt following the arrival of Robin van Persie from Arsenal. Van Persie completed a £24million move to Old Trafford on Friday and his move from London is likely to see Hernandez slip down the pecking order this season. Chicharito was already struggling for game time last season as Danny Welbeck was often preferred alongside Wayne Rooney, and he is believed to have become frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities. But according to ESPN, United have rejected an enquiry from Chelsea for the 24-year-old. According to Friday’s report, the Blues did not make an official offer, but are understood to have sounded out their league rivals about the forward. United are more likely to offload Dimitar Berbatov before the end of the month, and Hernandez has been urged to remain “calm” by Mexico and Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez. Sanchez believes his compatriot still has a future at the club following RVP’s arrival and told reporters on Friday: “They must have patience with him, he’s a great player. “Javier has a lot of quality that he will keep showing, what he needs is continuity, because when he was given that before he was effective”. “He needs to be calm and have confidence in his ability because when there is more competition the pressure can rise.”
