Speaking ahead of the game, Chelsea have confirmed that Willian and Pedro will both miss the clash against Arsenal. Willian suffered a hamstring injury on Wednesday as the Blues eased to a 4-0 win against Maccabi Tev Aviv in the Champions League, while summer signing Pedro will be missing again because of a muscle injury. Brazilian midfielder Willian had to be substituted soon after opening the scoring against the Israeli side as the Blues produced a creditable display in midweek. It was a good way for Jose Mourinho’s side to respond to their critics following a poor start to the campaign which has seen them lose three of their first five Premier League fixtures. “I forgot the feeling. For so long we don’t win a game, so good, a good feeling,” Mourinho said after the victory against Maccabi. “I am a fantastic manager when I win matches and I am a fantastic manager when I lose matches.” Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says his side have no “cheap excuses” regarding a lack of preparation time for the London derby. The Gunners were beaten in Croatia by Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday, the same day Chelsea beat Maccabi at home. “I don’t use that as an excuse,” said Wenger. “I believe we are in a position where we can perform.”
