Chivas Make It a Fantastic Five to Reach Liga MX Quarter-Finals

Published on

Of all the eight teams that will contest the Liga MX quarterfinals, few can say they are enjoying the incredible run of form as Las Chivas are right now.

Under caretaker boss Ricardo Cadena, the Guadalajara outfit have now won five games in a row – the latest a 4-1 demolition of Pumas which secured their place in the last eight.

Before the contest at Estadio Akron got underway, Alexis Vega was the subject of a ceremony to commemorate his contract extension, and the playmaker was in the mood to celebrate as he scored one goal and assisted another in the rout.

Cristian Calderon opened the scoring for the hosts, and while Pumas pulled level through Diogo Barbosa after 19 minutes, the class of Las Chivas would shine through in the second period.

Vega set up Fernando Beltran, who made no mistake to regain Chivas’ lead, before Jose Macias put the contest beyond doubt following good work from Pavel Perez.

The icing was added to the cake by Vega in the 89th minute, and ensured that Las Chivas will go into Sunday’s quarter-final first leg against champions Atlas full of confidence
