Cobresal’s late equalizer denies Union Española first place

Cobresal managed to score a late equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Unión Española thanks to their top scorer Gastón Lezcano. The result meant that Española were unable to move back to the top of the league.

The match was played in difficult conditions as heavy rainfall meant the playing surface was far from it’s best.

Cobresal took the lead on the stroke of half time when their talisman Lezcano found the net with a header.

In the second half, the home side finally managed to find their form and turned the game in their favour with two quick goals inside five minutes. Their first goal was scored by Uruguayan Rodrigo Piñeiro with a perfect shot from outside the area. The goal which put them 2-1 ahead was made by the young Vicente Conelli, which went in off Cobresal midfielder Ivan Araya.

Cobresal pushed for an equaliser, and it arrived in the 86th minute through Lezcano. With this result Unión Española are level on points with Colo-Colo on 21 points and only behind on goal difference. Cobresal are up to sixth place.
