Copa Libertadores 2022 kicks off
The 2022 Copa Libertadores kicked off with six games taking place on the first day.
Goals from Bruno Henrique and Matheuzinho saw Brazilian side Flamengo beat Sporting Cristal 2-0 in Peru.
Club Always Ready from Bolivia beat Brazilian side Corinthians 2-0 in Group E. In the group’s other fixture Colombian side Deportivo Cali won 2-0 against Argentina’s Boca Juniors thanks to two late goals.
Colón scored in the last minute through Facundo Farias to beat Uruguay’s Penarol 2-1 and take the early lead in Group G. Club Olimpia and Cerro Porteno drew 0-0 in the other game in the group.
There was also a goalless draw in Group B’s game between Caracas and Athletico Paranaense.
The reigning champions from Brazil, Palmeiras, start their campaign when they visit Deportivo Tachira in Venezuela. They are looking to win the tournament for the third consecutive year.
