Curicó Unido could be on course to play continental football for the first time in the club’s history.
They are up to fourth in the Chile Primera División after hammering Audax Italiano 4-1 on Tuesday, and that win keeps them in the hunt for automatic qualification for next season’s Copa Libertadores.
Albirrojos blazed into an early two-goal lead courtesy of strikes from Rodrigo Holgado and Bayron Oyarzo – although Audax’s Tomas Andrade pulled one back towards the end of the first half.
An even second period was punctuated by a pair of Curico goals – Bayron Oyarzo notching his second before Agustín Nadruz sealed the deal following an assist from Mario Sandoval.
It was their third win in their last four league games, and they have now only lost once since February – that defeat coming at the hands of leaders Colo Colo. The signs for Damián Muñoz’s team are positive indeed.
