Eduardo Berizzo named new Chile Coach

The Chilean FA have this week announced Eduardo Berizzo as their new manager. Berizzo replaces Martin Lasarte following Chile’s failure to qualify for this year’s World Cup. Chile once again missed out on football’s most prestigious tournament and haven’t played in the World Cup since 2014.

Berizzo signed a four-year deal with the Chilean FA which will take the Argentine up to the next World Cup.

Berizzo is no stranger to the Chilean national side having worked as one of Marcelo Bielsa’s assistants back in 2007.

Since then, he has enjoyed coaching spells at Estudiantes, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao.

Berizzo also knows what it takes to manage at the international level having just finished a post with the Paraguayan national team.

The appointment of Berizzo has raised a few eyebrows considering his poor record with the Paraguayan team.

Despite Chile missing out on a place in Qatar, there is a small chance that they could still find a route to the finals. The Chilean FA has lodged an official complaint to FIFA about the ineligible fielding of a Colombian player who plays for Ecuador. If Ecuador are found guilty, Chile are hoping to take their place.
