Finalissima is here as Italy and Argentina prepare to square off at Wembley stadium.
The match sees Italy, the champions of Europe, take on Argentina, the winners of South America, to see who will come out on top.
There is every chance that Argentina will be taking today’s game as seriously as possible, with Lionel Messi expected to start the match. The Argentinian defense has also been boosted with Cristian Romero set to feature, despite missing Tottenham’s last three games with a hip injury.
The game has a hidden subplot because Argentina is chasing Italy’s undefeated record. Up until their defeat against Spain in the Nations League Semi-Finals, Italy had set a world record of going 37 matches unbeaten. The Argentines currently sit on 31 and are inching ever closer to the record set by the Italians, who can end their opponent’s streak today.
Despite their hugely impressive run of form, Argentina isn’t currently considered one of the World Cup’s favorites next year. Victory over the European Champions could help change that view.
