Giovani dos Santos is back in training with Club América – although he has plenty of work to do to convince president Santiago Baños to take a chance on him.
The former wonderkid spent two seasons with the Aguilas between 2019 and 2021, scoring just four goals as he once again failed to make the most of his undoubted talent.
After Baños refused to extend his contract in 2021, dos Santos was forced to seek pastures new – MLS outfit Inter Miami welcomed the Mexican to their training facilities earlier this year.
But the franchise owned by David Beckham has refused to offer the 32-year-old a deal, and now he is back at Club América building up his fitness as looks to secure a permanent contract.
However, it’s unlikely that will be with his former employer, with Baños telling ESPN that while they were happy to have ‘Gio’ back, his exorbitant salary demands mean that Club América will not be looking to sign him any time soon.
