Grêmio earned three important points in their fight to reach the top of the league after winning 1-0 on their visit to Operário.
Since their relegation to Brasileiro B, Grêmio have taken a few matches to find their feet after finding the games are tougher than expected.
As with the start of their season, Grêmio were struggling in the opening half of the match. Roger Machado’s team found it difficult to break down the defence of Operário.
It wasn’t until the second half that Grêmio finally found the back of the net. A Gabriel Teixeira cross was converted by Elías Manoel to break Operário’s resistance.
The result moved Grêmio onto seven points and into the promotion positions.
The league leader is Bahia, who have 10 points, after their home victory against Sampaio Corrêa by 1-0. In the next match, Bahia will face Ituano at the Estadio Municipal Novelli Junior, while Grêmio will look for a win when they host CRB.
