Grêmio make disappointing start to Brasileiro Série B campaign

Published on

Following last season’s relegation to Brasileiro Série B, Grêmio had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Ponte Preta in the first match of the season.

The team from Porto Alegre were far superior but could not score and lost out on two important points. They missed their best chance when midfielder, Lucas Silva, failed to score his 23rd minute penalty.

The team’s coach, Roger Machado, told a post-match press conference that they regretted the wasted opportunities, and he remarked that promotion to Série A is still the team’s main objective. He also confessed that it is not an easy road, since the Série B is a rough, exhausting and physical tournament. Their first match shows the challenge they face.

The next match for Grêmio is on April 15 against Chapecoense, who were also relegated to Série B last season. They started with a draw against Ituano.
