Gualaceo Win Fifth Game in Six Liga PRO Ecuador Outings Against Guayaquil City

Gualaceo’s status as the most in-form team in Liga PRO Ecuador was upheld in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Guayaquil City.

Leonardo Vanegas’ team have now won five of their last six games. What makes their run even more impressive is that this is their first season as a Serie A team following promotion last season.

Joaquin Verges was once again the hero, with his brace of goals taking his tally to the season to eight – he is currently the division’s top scorer.

The Uruguayan opened the scoring after 12 minutes from the penalty spot, although Guayaquil hit back just nine minutes later with an equaliser from Esnaider Cabezas.

But confidence is a fickle beast in soccer, and that’s in no short supply at Gualaceo – whereas Guayaquil had conceded eight goals in their prior three outings. So, it was perhaps no surprise when Verges found space in the 65th minute to net the winner.
