Hit for Six! Julián Álvarez Enjoys Historic Day in River Plate Thrashing

Published on

It’s fair to say that Julián Álvarez is signing off in style during his last days as a River Plate player.

The 22-year-old will join Manchester City later this year, but he is still banging in the goals for his current team and had a day he will never forget in River Plate’s 8-1 demolition of Alianza Lima in Copa Libertadores.

Álvarez scored an incredible six goals in the rout, and he will now be eyeing the chance of lifting the trophy in his final season as a River Plate player.

The forward scored a hat-trick in each half as Los Millonarios maintained their unbeaten run in Group F, with further goals from Santiago Simón and Elías Gómez compounding the misery of the Peruvians, for whom Pablo Lavendeira netted the most fruitless of consolation strikes.

River advance to the last 16 of Copa Libertadores 2022, and with Álvarez still in their ranks for the time being they will feel that anything is possible.
