Is the pressure starting to build on Diego Simeone?

Published on

Diego Simeone has been one of Europe’s most enigmatic managers. Simeone who has been the Atletico Madrid Manager for over a decade now has done a superb job with the Spanish side.

Simeone has been able to break the dominance of the big two Spanish clubs – Barcelona and Real Madrid and has won the Spanish title twice in his tenure. He has also won the Europa League title twice, Copa Del Ray once, two Super Cups, and took Atletico to two Champions League finals.

Despite winning the league last year, this season has been a slog for Simeone and his men. Currently, they sit 4th in La Liga and are now out of the Champions League after failing to beat Manchester City.

Simeone and his tactics which sometimes cross a line have made his Atletico one of the most unpopular sides in the game and despite having a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal, many believe that he simply doesn’t get enough out of them.

Finishing in the top 4 is an absolute must for Simeone and his team and they face a real race to get there.
