Liverpool FC target Gaston Ramirez rejects chance to join Tottenham

Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, has rejected an approach from Tottenham, according to his agent.

Liverpool have been seen as favourites to sign the 21-year-old for some time, although the likes of the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have also shown interest in the highly-rated Uruguay international, who recently impressed for his country at the men’s football tournament at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Bologna have insisted Ramirez will only be allowed to leave the club this summer should their €20million valuation be met.

But Pablo Betancourt has revealed Spurs tabled a €16m bid for his client, who rejected a move to White Hart Lane after being offered unsatisfactory wages.

And Betancourt has also acknowledged that there have been talks with Liverpool.

“The only solid offer is the one from Tottenham, who offered €16million,” he told Calciomercato.

“But the deal didn’t go through because Spurs offered too low a wage to the player and if the wage difference is minimal he would stay at Bologna.

“Tottenham could raise their offer if they sell [Luka] Modric and in that case the deal could be done, otherwise Ramirez will stay another year at Bologna. We also talked with Liverpool but nothing more.

“Inter? They are interested in the player, but can’t afford a cash offer similar to the English clubs.

“The Nerazzurri would wish to include some players in the deal, but Bologna only want cash, also because of the arrangement with Penarol [Ramirez’s former club] who receive a percentage if the player is sold.”

Tottenham are widely expected to sell Modric to Real Madrid in the coming days.
