Speaking ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp is adamant that his Liverpool players cannot use tiredness as an excuse when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach is happy to be playing in the Europa League this season but hopes to guide the Reds into next term’s Champions League.

Liverpool beat Rubin Kazan in Russia 1-0 on Thursday but Klopp insists there should be enough time for his players to give of their best against Alan Pardew’s side.

Klopp took a full-strength squad on the 5,000-mile round trip to Russia, with Philippe Coutinho, who was nursing a minor hamstring injury, the only first-team regular not to feature against Rubin.

“We have to play. We cannot rest. That is our situation. This has been really good,” said Klopp.

“We can work with this. The best training at the moment is our matches. It is very intensive. It is good for physical condition and it is good to talk about after games. It’s much easier when we win.

“If you think we have too many matches then stop playing at Christmas. For the moment, everything is okay. There are many games but the Europa League is not a problem for English teams. No winter break might be the problem.”

Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Lucas Leiva and Martin Skrtel are in contention to return to the starting line-up against Palace after being named among the substitutes in Kazan, but Daniel Sturridge once again misses out because of a knee problem.
