Liverpool to set a new club transfer record for the signing of Nunez

Published on

As we reported last week, Liverpool look set to complete the transfer of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a reported fee of 75 million euros which could rise to 100 million euros in total. The transfer is set to be completed over the next few days.

The deal would eclipse the previous transfer record set at the club, long surpassing the fee that the Reds had paid for Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool have long been lauded for how they deal in the transfer market and once again they showed all of their ruthless efficiencies in getting the deal for Nunez done quickly. With many clubs interested in Nunez, it will delight Jurgen Klopp that they have been able to get their man.

These are interesting times at Liverpool as the time for the fabled front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah seems to be coming to an end.

Mane is reportedly close to securing a move to German champions Bayern Munich, whilst Salah and Firmino are both about to embark on the final year of their contracts.

Whilst it’s clear that the signing of Nunez is a statement, for now, it’s also apparent that Liverpool are starting to plan for life without the likes of Mane and Salah as they attempt to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
