Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has insisted goalkeeper David de Gea will not be sold before the transfer window closes.

De Gea has been tracked by Spanish giants Real Madrid all summer and has so far this season yet to make a competitive appearance for the former champions because of the speculation.

Van Gaal, who rejected any notion he was upset by target Pedro’s decision to join rivals Chelsea, said the former Atletico Madrid stopper will not be returning to his homeland this month.

“I think when Manchester United wants a player he shall come, besides when a club is not selling,” he told reporters.

“It is the same with us. We are not selling de Gea.”

The former Netherlands coach has brought in the likes of Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero this summer, but hinted there could be more new arrivals before the deadline.

The 64-year-old said United would not be held to ransom by other clubs and insisted he will not be making panic buys.

When asked about the prospect of more signings, he replied: “You have to wait to see.

“It’s not any pressure for me. We have 28 players. We did it last season without Pedro.

“When it is like that, I go with this squad because we have 28 players and I have said already now we have a better balanced selection.

“When we buy it has to be a contribution to our selection and it has to be not against any price.”
