Angelo Henriquez will join Manchester United before the end of the month, Universidad de Chile have confirmed.
Henriquez’s brother, Cesar, on Wednesday revealed that the 18-year-old striker has passed his medical with the Red Devils as a £4million move to Old Trafford edges closer.
The player has already confirmed talks with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson have taken place, and he is set to become the first Chilean ever to play for the club.
A Universidad de Chile statement read: “Angelo Henriquez will join Manchester United this month.
“The player is physically and mentally prepared to take this determining step in his career.”
Club president Jose Yuraszcek added: “Manchester United’s representatives told us that it was fundamental for them to take him now.”
Earlier this week, the teenager told Chilean newspaper La Tercera: “I am coming to stay at Manchester United and I’m going to play to obtain that objective.
“They are giving me this opportunity and I can’t let it go, it is something that I have searched for my whole life. It’s a dream I have always had and I can’t afford to not want to be here.
“Everything is spectacular here in Manchester. For me it is all a dream. Imagine it, just to be able to play and share a dressing room with people like Wayne Rooney. It’s a dream.”
Henriquez, who has also been linked with Manchester City, also admitted he would prefer to stay at Universidad rather than join another European side should United wish to loan him out for the short-term.
“I’m not sure what is going to happen with my future,” he said.
“I’m not dealing with this situation, my agent is, he will meet with the United president and they will sort out what will happen with me.
“I want to play in the Man United first team. If it is decided to send me out on loan, I prefer to stay with Universidad for the period that United deem appropriate.”
