Cesar Azpilicueta backs new Chelsea FC signing Pedro to improve

Published on

New signing Pedro will improve on a goalscoring debut for Chelsea, according to team-mate and fellow Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta.

Pedro netted the opening goal in a 3-2 victory at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, with Azpilicueta, who scored his first Premier League goal later on in the game, confident that his compatriot will improve as the season progresses.

The defender told reporters: “He has trained for one week, he played his first game, he is discovering the Premier League and I’m sure he will get better.

“I know him very well and he fits into the team very well. I know his ambition, he is hungry to help the team, win trophies and I know the way he started the first game is amazing.”

Meanwhile, Pedro himself has confirmed that he was wanted by three clubs in England before he opted to head to Stamford Bridge, where he is looking forward to challenging for silverware.

He told a farewell press conference at Barcelona: “I had offers from other English clubs – Manchester United, City and Chelsea, who were the club that more rapidly resolved my transfer and the one that showed more interest in me.

“I’m very happy to be at Chelsea because it’s a club that, like Barca, are fighting for titles. But I haven’t gone to Chelsea just to work under Jose Mourinho, but also because London attracts me as a city and I have friends at Chelsea.”
