Newcastle eye up Lodi transfer

The Newcastle revolution is set to continue this summer. The club are set to be targeting several important signings to help bolster the team’s chances of European football next season.

Since the club was purchased by wealthy Saudi Arabian owners, the Newcastle board have been pragmatic in their approach to rebuilding the club.

In the January transfer window, Newcastle found themselves in the midst of a relegation battle so attracting top talent wasn’t the easiest of tasks.

Despite spending £95 million on recruits, the majority of signings the Magpies made were on solid Premier League players. The signings of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes were exceptions, but Newcastle got the balance right and eased their way to safety.

This summer the expectations will be higher, and one name that Newcastle have been heavily linked with is Renan Lodi.

Lodi is a Brazilian left-back who currently plays at Atletico Madrid. Lodi formed a key part of Diego Simeone’s defence and if the Magpies can sign him, Lodi would help form a devastating wing back partnership with former teammate Trippier.

At just 24, Lodi is one of the best players in his position across Europe.

If Newcastle can prise the Brazilian away from Atletico it will be a real signal of intent of where the Magpies are heading.
