Nunez reportedly close to Manchester United deal

According to reports circulating in England, Uruguayan hitman Darwin Nunez is on the verge of signing for Manchester United, with reports stating that a deal between United and Benfica is “incredibly close.”

The fallout from Manchester United’s disastrous season has continued with the confirmation that former interim boss Ralf Rangnick who was due to take up a two-year consultancy deal will now no longer be taken up. It’s another problem for new Utd boss Erik Ten Hag to deal with.

Ten Hag has made no secret of his need to refresh his United squad and the capturing of Nunez would certainly be an upgrade to what United currently have in the forward positions.

Nunez was last season’s top scorer in the Portuguese league and found the back of the net six times in the Champions League.

A classy operator, Nunez still has his best football ahead of him and it would be a real coup if United can pull off the deal. There could still be some doubt over the transfer being finalised as Nunez has previously stated that he wants to move to a club in the Champions League, something that United can’t currently offer.

Despite these reports, there is every chance that Liverpool might make their move as they look for a replacement for the outgoing Sadio Mane.

It will be a transfer to keep an eye on as the summer develops.
