Sunday’s round up of the top transfer stories from the past 24 hours…

– Liverpool are considering launching a bid for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, according to the Daily Mail.

– Arsenal and Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay ahead of the summer transfer window closing on Friday, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

– Arsenal and Manchester City are on alert after Rennes confirmed a deal for Jean Makoun, who is widely seen as a replacement for Yann M’Vila.

– And Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he could still make signings this month, telling the club’s official website: “Some things can still happen. I don’t want make a promise that I cannot keep. It does not only depend on me. But there still could be some action on the transfer market – ins and outs.

“We are working in the market. We’ll see what we can do.

“The transfer market is open for two months and yet for one month and three weeks it is nearly closed. It wakes up completely in the last week and then every minute becomes important.

“Everybody has played for time for seven or eight weeks and now suddenly everyone is in a hurry. And that is when the most intense activity happens.”

– Arsenal and Theo Walcott have opened talks over a new contract as the winger continues to be linked with Chelsea and Liverpool.

– Sir Alex Ferguson has played down Manchester United’s interest in Pachuca midfielder Hector Herrera, who is also believed to be a target for Liverpool.

– Chelsea are confident of keeping David Luiz at the club, despite interest from Barcelona.

– Fiorentina have again insisted that Stevan Jovetic is not for sale as he continues to be linked with Premier League champions Manchester City.
