With the draw now having been made for the 2022 World Cup there are still a few places to be confirmed.
Qualifying from the South American region has been Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Ecuador. There is one more place up for grabs and that could fall to Peru.
Peru had a great campaign and ended up finishing 5th in the South American qualifying phase. Peru beat out perennial World Cup teams Colombia and Chile to finish 5th and with it the opportunity to advance to the November finals via a playoff.
Awaiting Peru is either Australia or the UAE. The two are due to lock horns on the 7th of June with the winner of the one-off match playing Peru on the 13th of June.
It was a poor qualifying campaign for Australia. The Socceroos have become World Cup regulars in recent times but finished a distant third behind both Saudi Arabia and Japan. The UAE is looking to progress to a World Cup for the first time.
Peru, no matter who they face will start as favorites for the contest but know that a tough final hurdle awaits.
