Rafael Borre is the hero as Frankfurt win Europa League

Published on

For the second time in their history, Frankfurt are Europa League winners.

In a tense match, it was the German side who held their nerve to beat Rangers in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The game kicked into gear fifteen minutes into the second half, capitalising on a slip in the Frankfurt defence Joe Aribo raced through on goal and made no mistake with the finish. With Rangers looking to hold onto their lead, Frankfurt piled on the pressure and it was Colombian forward Rafael Borre who bought the German side level with a brilliant instinctive finish.

From there, penalties looked inevitable.

With so much on the line, it was Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey who missed the crucial kick. Ramsey’s miss allowed Borre the opportunity to win the cup for his side. Borre made no mistake, smashing his penalty high into the top corner sending the German half of the stadium into delirium.

Borre’s performances would have attracted plenty of attention from across Europe and it will be interesting to see where the Colombian will be playing his football next season.
