The fight for Coutinho’s signature intensifies

Published on

It looks incredibly likely that Philippe Coutinho’s days at Barcelona are set to come to an end.

The forward has rejuvenated his career whilst on loan at Aston Villa and his performances have attracted the attention of clubs across Europe.

Speaking after Aston Villa’s 3-0 victory over Burnley last weekend, Villa boss Steven Gerrard re-emphasized his desire for the Brazilian’s loan to be made permanent.

The deal could be difficult to do as signing Coutinho permanently would see Aston Villa needing to smash their wage structure.

Coutinho, who has scored four goals since his return to English football is also attracting the attention of Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Newcastle look set to take the Premier League by storm under their new owners. Arguably now the richest club in the world, the Newcastle hierarchy will be looking for their side to challenge for Europe next season. It may still be too early in the journey for Newcastle to attract some of the world’s very best, but Coutinho could be the statement signing they are after.

With wages not going to be an issue for the Magpies, it will be an intriguing summer for Coutinho who will have a very tough and interesting decision to make.
