Thiago Silva may be in the twilight of his career but even at 38, the Brazilian has no intention of hanging up his boots.
Silva is contracted at Chelsea until the end of next season and will still need to play a vital part in Chelsea’s defense.
The current Chelsea backline is set for some major changes. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are on their way to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, whilst question marks also remain over current club captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
As it stands Silva is one of just a few defenders set to stay at the club.
Speaking after Chelsea’s FA Cup Final defeat, Silva spoke of his future and wanting to return to Fluminese. Fluminese holds a special place in Silva’s heart and he wants to repay the club that took a chance on him earlier in his career.
Silva is clearly a top professional and despite being nearly 40, he still looks like a top-class defender at the highest level. It’s likely that Silva will be selected for the upcoming World Cup, and he will want to end his international career in style by winning the biggest prize of them all.
