Tigres beat Querétaro to draw level with Pachuca at the top

Published on

Tigres kept up with Pachuca at the top of Liga MX after beating Querétaro 1-0, despite finishing the game with nine men.

It was an important win for Miguel Herrera’s team as they continue to fight for the title.

The match looked like it was slipping away from Tigres after the expulsion of Mexican defender Hugo Ayala in the first half. They took the lead in the 75th minute. An exquisite shot from Venezuelan midfielder Yeferson Soteldo from outside the penalty area finally broke Querétaro’s tough defence. Soteldo went from hero to villain in a minute when he received his second yellow card for taking his shirt off in his celebration and he was sent off. Luckily they held out with nine men and took the win.

Pachuca, on Monday, drew 0-0 against Tijuana and lost the opportunity to pull ahead at the top of the table. It means Pachuca and Tigres are level on 29 points, with Pachuca ahead on goal difference. Tigres will host Toluca in their next match and Pachuca visit bottom of the table Juárez.
