Speaking ahead of the game, Mesut Ozil has called on Arsenal fans to stay calm about the team’s inconsistent start to the season.

The 26-year-old Germany international spoke out after Arsene Wenger’s side followed up a disappointing 2-1 Champions League group defeat away at Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb last week with a 2-0 Premier League loss at rivals Chelsea on Saturday when they were left down to nine men.

The Gunners already face a battle to progress to the last-16 of the Champions League, while they currently sit fifth in the Premier League on 10 points from six games – five adrift of early leaders Manchester City.

Another opportunity to claim some silverware starts when Arsenal make the short trip across north London to face rivals Spurs in the third round of the League Cup.

And Ozil has urged the supporters not to panic about the side’s mixed results as he is confident they will improve.

Writing on his Facebook page, the midfielder said: “Sometimes things don’t turn out the way you’d hoped or expected.

“The last two matches don’t reflect where we are standing as a team.

“We will focus on our practice even more now and prepare for the next big games! The season is still young…”
