Luis Diaz helps give Liverpool first leg lead over Benfica

The January transfer window is a notoriously difficult window to get right and an addition in January rarely hits the ground running.

This can’t be said of Liverpool’s latest recruit, Luis Diaz.

Diaz who made the recent move to Merseyside from Porto has hit the ground running. Since making the move Diaz has contributed three goals for Liverpool with his most vital coming against Benfica in the first leg of Liverpool’s 3-1 quarterfinal victory.

Diaz who has looked like a real live wire in his short lived Premier League career so far has wrestled his way into Liverpool’s starting line up and has added some tremendous depth to Liverpool’s squad. There are some pundits who believe that Dias is the ready made replacement should either Sadio Mane or Mohammed Salah look to move on from Anfield.

It has been a tough period for Diaz who experienced World Cup heartbreak with Colombia who could only finish 6th in their qualifying group. The Colombians have failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since missing out in 2010.

Diaz was clearly able to put the heartbreak behind him and helped inspire Liverpool with his well taken goal. Liverpool will be hoping that there will be plenty more goals to come as they bid for a historic quadruple.
