2010 Roland Garros – Justine Henin still the favorite for women’s singles

Crunch Sports Staff – 26 May 2021

Updating the futures market ahead of the round 2 matches.

Justine Henin won her first round match however she did not look exceptionally sharp despite winning.  As a result many sportsbooks have lengthened her price a little bit.  Here efforts may fall short of making the finals however as her quarter is jam-packed with talent including Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

Here are the updated odds for the top 8 favorites:

1.  Justine Henin, +225 (9/4), extrabet
2.  Serena Williams, +500 (5/1), Ladbrokes
3.  Jelena Jankovic, +650 (13/2), Boylesports
4.  Venus Williams, +900 (9/1), bet365

5.  Aravane Rezai, +1600 (16/1), Boylesports
6.  Svetlana Kuznetsova, +2000 (20/1), Stan James
7.  Elena Dementieva, +2200 (22/1), Coral
8.  Caroline Wozniacki, +2500 (25/1), William Hill

This is a market with a lot of variance at this point and it should be pointed out that THREE of the top four favorites may be overrated.

Henin’s form heading into the 2010 French Open does not resemble her form from the years when she won the event and there is no way +225 is a good price on her.  How exactly Serena Williams or Venus Williams are going to stumble at the French isn’t clear however with the exception of 2002 (EIGHT years ago), they always seem to find a way and their odds can be avoided.

Jankovic at +650 (13/2) is a good price to hit up as is Rezai at +1600 (16/1) and both prices are available with Boylesports (MAXIMUMBONUS is your promotional code).  Rezai is not new to Grand Slams at all but she’s never been mentioned as a favorite before and in winning Madrid she defeated both Justine Henin and Venus Williams.

Maria Sharapova is not mentioned in the above list but she’s a contender and she can be picked with Boylesports as well at +4000 (40/1).  Interestingly enough bwin.com have Sharapova at a short price of +1000 (10/1) so do not mistake the value of having her in your pick list at 40 to 1.  She could be the one to take out Justine Henin as both players are but one victory away from setting up what would be a fantastic 3rd round match.
