Rising Argentinian netters Sebastian Baez and Federico Coria suffered heartbreaking losses on Thursday to bow out in the quarterfinal round of the ATP Lyon Open.
Coria, who knocked out World No.17 Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain in the previous round was unable to sustain his momentum, losing to the red-hot Alex Molcan 3-6, 2-6 in 90 minutes.
While Coria was easily dispatched by Molcan in quarters, Baez showed some resistance before ultimately falling short to British tennis star Cameron Norrie 4-6, 6-4, 5-7.
“All credit to Sebi. He played a really good match. The rallies were so tough and it was really tough to finish it off at the end but I managed to do it,” Norrie said during his on-court interview.
Down 5-3 to Norrie in the third, Baez managed to tie the game at five apiece but the latter ultimately dropped his next serve as the Briton cruised past to a hard-earned win in a match that lasted for two hours and 40 minutes.
