Chilean tennis ace Cristian Garin scored a measure of revenge by pulling off a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Tommy Paul on Tuesday to move into the second round of the French Open.
It can be recalled that Garin suffered a heartbreaking 4-6, 6-3, 4-6 loss to the 33rd ranked Paul in the Round of 64 of the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati last year.
However, the victory didn’t come easily as the Chilean lost the initial set despite leading 3-2 in the early stages of the match.
Fortunately, Garin was able to regain his bearings as he asserted his powerful service game in the next three sets to seal his path into the next round after two hours and 54 minutes.
An acid test awaits the 25-year old netter next as he takes on Belarusian star Ilya Ivashka in the next round. Ivashka punched his ticket in the second round by beating Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-3, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5.
