Garin subdues Ivashka, meets familiar foe in Roland Garros Third Round

Chilean tennis ace Cristian Garin is moving into the third round of the French Open for the third straight year.

This after the 25-year-old Garin beat Belarusian netter Ilya Ivashka 6-3, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 in an action-packed second-round match that took two hours and 54 minutes on Thursday.

After starting the match strong, Garin struggled in the third set as Ivashka played with more lucidity resulting in the latter forcing a fourth set.

However, it only lit the fire under Garin’s eyes as the Chilean showed no mercy in the next set, beating Ivashka 6-3 to seal the win.

With the victory, Garin will be taking on a familiar tormentor in Russian Andrey Rublev who beat Argentinian netter Federico Delbonis 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the previous round.

Garin trails Rublev 0-2 in their ATP head-to-head series with the latter winning a pair of 2019 matches at Wimbledon and Hamburg.
