Schwartzman collapses in the fourth round of Roland Garros

Argentine netter Diego Schwartzman displayed epic resistance but ultimately fell short in the fourth round of the French Open on Sunday.

The 16th-ranked Schwartzman lost to defending champion Novak Djokovic 1-6, 3-6, 3-6 in two hours and 15 minutes of play to bow out of the tournament. It was the Argentine’s seventh consecutive loss to Djokovic in as many matches.

After an erratic opening set, Schwartzman brought his full arsenal in the second as he raced into a 3-0 lead. However, it proved to be the Argentine’s last hurrah as Djokovic dominated the next six games to take a commanding advantage heading into the third.

From then on, it was a one-way street for Djokovic who saved two break points at 1-1 before breaking Schwartzman who was cheered by a large South American and Spanish crowd at Court Suzanne Lenglen.

With the victory, Djokovic sets up a quarterfinal showdown with rival Rafael Nadal who survived Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
