Teixeira wants to retire as champion in New York

Teixeira likely to retire this year

Brazilian gladiator Glover Teixeira wants to retire as the light heavyweight champion in New York this November.

In an interview with Mundo da Luta, the 42-year-old Teixeira said that he will likely retire this year regardless of his current performance.

The UFC light heavyweight champion is currently riding a six-fight winning streak with stoppage victories over Thiago Santos, Anthony Smith, and Jan Blachowicz.

“I’ll be 43 in November. Regardless of being at the top, being the best in the world or not, I wanna stop this year. It will probably be my last year. I don’t wanna make this decision after a fight, but it’s what I’ve been thinking for a while,” Teixeira said.

Teixeira also added that the perfect plan would be to retire in New York but insisted his focus is currently at beating Jiri Prochazka.

He is scheduled to defend the light-heavyweight gold against Prochazka in Singapore at UFC 275 this June.
